Reading for pleasure

At Castle Hill, we want children to have the desire to read. Evidence suggests that there is a positive relationship between reading frequency, reading enjoyment and attainment.  Regularly reading stories or novels outside of school is a major contributing factor to academic success. Positive reading attitudes lead to a pleasure in reading in later life and an increased general knowledge. In our school, we foster this desire to read through: adults reading to the children in daily story times; choosing rich texts for teaching; seeing adults read around the school; teachers swapping classes for storytime; 'Bedtime Story' events; celebrating World Book Day and provision of the Community Reading Hub and the school libraries all of which contain a wide variety of high quality children's literature.
